Effects of particulate matter on endothelial, epithelial and immune system cells

Particulate Matter (PM) is an air pollutant that classified according to its aerodynamic diameter into particles with a of less than 10 µm (PM10), 2.5 (PM2.5), and ultra-fine 0.1 (PM0.1). PM10 housed in the respiratory system, while PM2.5 can pass circulation generate systemic alterations. Although several diseases associated PM exposure, such as respiratory, cardiovascular, central nervous have been documented cause 4.2 million premature deaths per year worldwide. Few reviews address cellular molecular mechanisms epithelial endothelial cells tissues exposed PM, which these diseases, this being objective present review. For this, search was carried out NCBI Google Scholar databases focused on scientific publications addressed expression pro-inflammatory molecules, adhesion oxidative radicals, among others, their relationship effects caused by PM. The main findings include increase cytokines dysfunction components immune response; formation reactive oxygen species; changes function, evidenced altered molecules; molecules involved coagulation. Complementary studies are required understand harmful health future approach strategies mitigate response.
